Monuments retreat under Time’s harsh gaze,
fighting the futile fight, but fighting all the same
as their stone crumbles, grain, by grain, by grain.
They stood strong and solid – behold triumph!
The ones who’d never break, who’d eternally reign,
staring down with disdain, disdain, disdain.
Mighty voices now stolen by the wind;
fading fragmented echoes, a vanishing stain,
‘Please don’t forget my name, my name, my name.’
very well done, george! much enjoyed this read.
peace & blessings,

but "grain by grain" will fade away and disappear like yesterday.
Hey, that's not bad, is it?
Seriously, I admire your poetry in "Monuments." Makes me think of a Bible verse (out of context, though)--"This too shall pass away."
Man himself is only here for a short season until he disappears from earthly life and fleeting fame. Your echoing of the ending words in each verse gives the illusion of passing time. Good writing!
