Where's My Daddy

Knowing what it is like to grow up without a father in the home myself, working with abused children and previously volunteering at my children’s school, it saddens me deeply that there aren’t any children’s books on the market to help children who are fatherless, yet the statistics are frightening to say the least.
“Where’s My Dad” is a 42-line rhyming picture book manuscript dealing with a child who is growing up without a father in the home and his or her particular feelings because of the situation. It has a valuable message told in an easy, simple way.
The story emphasizes the fact that any separation from their birth father is not the children’s fault and it allows the children to express their feelings, which include sadness, anger, hurt, etc. More importantly, they will feel comforted knowing they have a heavenly Father who loves them, and that HE will never leave.
There is a section at the end of the book, written for adults, which shows statistics about fatherless children and contains information regarding that situation.

“Where’s My Daddy”

By Tammy Risaliti

I know I had a daddy once.
Why did he go away?

My mommy said it’s not our fault,
things turned out that way.

When all the other kids at school
talk about their dads...

I know I should be glad for them;
instead I just get mad.

I’m grateful for my mommy though,
who helps me understand

that everything will be alright,
then softly holds my hand.

My mommy said she knows it’s hard,
but if I try to pray,

God will hear me when I hurt
and never go away.

“I may not be your daddy,
but I ‘m your Father from above;

just talk to me when you are sad
and know that you are loved.”

At times it can be hard for me
to see the other dads...

playing with their kids outside;
it makes me kind of sad.

Today’s the father- daughter dance   (For girls)
I know I won’t be there,

Today’s my big baseball game.   (For boys)
I know he won’t be there,

But that’s ok, I’m not alone.
I have someone who cares.

So when I wish my dad was here
but know it can’t come true ,

I’ll think of what my mommy said;
I know just what to do...

My mommy said she knows it’s hard,
but if I try to pray,

God will hear me when I hurt
and never run away.

“I may not be your daddy,
but I ‘m your Father from above;

Just talk to me when you are sad
and know that you are loved.”

Americans unresolved father problems.
Over half of Americans agree that most people have unresolved problems with their fathers. Cumulatively, 55.6% agreed with this statement, up from 54.1% in our 1996 poll. More non‑whites (70.4%) than whites (56.3%) were in agreement. Interestingly, the generation who has experienced more father absence, 18‑ to 24‑year‑olds, displayed the highest level of agreement (67.2%). Income was also a differentiating factor: of the respondents making $25,000 or less, 70.1% agreed, compared to only 48.0% among those who make more than $50,000.
