To Dream Again

We’ve walked this road and fought this war
For years and years and then once more.
We’ve made these ruts and dropped these bombs
And died these deaths and built these tombs.
You know my plans and where I’ll go;
I know your schemes as well as you.
The same old words, the same old ways
The same old nights, the same old days.

So here I am and there are you;
You live with me and I’m here too,
But both of us live quite alone
And go our ways as if there’s none
Who lives within this house’s walls
To listen when a footstep falls
Or speak a word of love and care
To heal a wound or mend a tear.

It must be so I know--you’ve said
And this is what I really dread.
You are afraid--and so am I
And in our fears we wonder why
We must build walls and never dare
To let them down and trust that care
Will come to us and be again
As once it was before the pain.

The answers lie as broken men
Who really dared to dream and then
Were left to starve and die of thirst
Until their very souls did burst
With longing for a partner’s hand
To cling to in that wretched land,
But none was there and so they died
With empty tears and unheard cries.

Oh once we dreamed and there before
Us stood a wide and open door.
I took your hand and you took mine.
We trusted that a Hand Divine
Was leading as we both stepped through
And gazed in awe at all so new.
A home was ours and little hands
Led both of us to strange new lands.

But then it came, that bitter pain,
And none can make it leave again.
The deeds are done, the words are said,
They ring like bells within our heads.
The child we love and long to see
Has turned away from family.
The friends we knew were always there
Are blown away as leaves on air.

Wow, this is good. Describes so many marriages today. It's a shame when couples turn away from each other. A magnificent work.

Outstanding and powerful work. Grabs the heart and shakes it.

Say Something Terrorible v3 by RickthePoetWarrior

My mom says ‘If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything’. Sorry mom but under the guise of poetic license I penned these beauties.
