I wrote this for a friend of a friend who's brother never made it out of Vietnam and they have yet to find his remains---

A handful of dirt
is all that remains
of my body, my soul
and even my name.

A handful of dirt
will let you carry me home
and bring it all to rest
So no longer shall I roam.

A handful of dirt
Where I held my ground
shows all that I am
and that I've been found.

A handful of dirt
is all that's left of me
hold it close to your heart
for in it I shall always be.

Heck, it is terrible and I totally empathaise. Spending time oer a couple of decades ago on USAF bases, only when the guys from nam were drunk did I hear much that will die with me. Such a thankless task!

I hope they find closure, many fail to grasp why it is so necessary.

I only wish it were possible to bring every one of our hero-warriors home but I appreciate your sentiments expressed beautifully in this write on reminding us we must never forget those left behind. Thank you, Fawn

Reverently sentimental and beautiful words to share as there were many who never returned...

Be always safe,
Karen
