A horse is a horse, of course.

Ol' Spaghetti Legs

                   David Rumer

Of all the joys among her toys,
She loves her red horse best.
She holds him tight against her breast,
Disdaining all the rest.

His shoulder stands, by her small span,
Not quite a full four hands.
The muscles of his scrawny legs
Are strong as rubber bands.

He doesn't play the polo game,
And never ran the races.
The heart inside his cardinal hide
Beats for wide open spaces.

No, he'll never be selected
Equine of the nation.
A picky judge will likely say,
"He's lacking conformation."

Some people say he"s just a horse,
Though a gallant mount indeed
He"s more than just a horse of course,
He's Shannon's favorite steed.

What an adorable picture of the little girl, and a lively poem to match. Enjoyed both indeed!

I love this little gem. (and I adore horses, too, so that only adds to the pleasure.) What a delight, thank you.

This really is delightful. I have been reading so much poetry lately that is all sugery or savage and bitter, so this is a relief.
