Beyond the Constellations of the Bears

     for Crystal

On this day of cerulean bears
That across silent eyelashes ran,
I foresee past blue waters a stirring
In the hollows of eyes—a command.

—Velimir Khlebnikov (1885-1922)

Beyond the constellations of the Bears
I see reflections of the ancient gods
And I can see the moon inside your hair,
Feeling the music pulsing in my blood.
Beyond the ruins of forgotten cities,
Beyond the battlefields where myriads died,
Beyond religions, wars and hollow treaties,
I see the ancient wisdom in your eyes.
Let daily sermons fall upon deaf ears,
Let prophets come and go as they please,
Let churches go on exploiting fear—
The truth is the wind, the rocks, the trees—
It’s what I know in my heart, it’s what you know
Each time I look inside your playful eyes,
And when it’s time for you and me to go,
The truth is in our love that never dies.

I hope you were successful with these lines of entreaty to Crystal to capture her heart. If she truly loved you, it really wouldn't matter what you put into a poem. She would see it as something wonderful that you gave her from your mind to hers.

Those four lines from Velimir Khlebnikov are stunning. I'm glad you shared them with us.

The beautifully naked truth at the heart of this piece penetrates like a perfectly fashioned magic arrow: shrug off religious gobbledegook for what it is (the desperation of the hopeless, confused masses who seek comfort in the midst of an experiential, vacuum) and embrace the only 'real' and 'present' evidence we spiritually blind creatures are permitted to perceive, the natural essence of our immediate insertion into the beautiful mysteries of the physical world we are so inextricably connected to, and exist within. Whether the product of an unknowable force beyond our ken or a cold, emotionless Master Computer Simulation Programmer somewhere off in an unguessed other dimension, what we see is what we got, like it yes or like it not. In this case, you argue for the former state of being and it's excellently expressed.
