Poem Artwork

Happy as a Goose

(inspired by the artwork of Lucy Almey Bird)

I want to be a homebody,
curled up with my favorite
book on my favorite couch,
with my dogs and cats by my
side, oblivious to the news
and the world at large--
just listening to the birds
and picking flowers
to tickle my nose with.

I want to cook and wash
the dishes, hang my laundry
on the clothesline
in the gentle breeze of
my domestic tranquility,
dancing together with
my perky girlfriends,
enjoying the morning sun.

I want to be happy just
enjoying the simple things--
so don't bother me with
that other stuff--
I threw out my telly
long time ago.

Okay, if one lives in the country, or near a park where birds like that can be found. An idyllic setting remote from the turmoils of the telly.

I only turn the telly on to get the bad news. There's good news all around me. Bad news gets watchers like me. The worst, the better, when it comes to ratings. Otherwise, one is simply burying one's head in the sand. Knowing was bad going on and knowing that almost everything is still good makes one less anxious about the future and frightful of things that they shouldn't be frightened of.
