Dedicated to my late husband,Thomas Cecil of Rathlin island

'The Last Hero'

Running before the tide,

Feeling the wind

A sea of distance,

That will not wait

For the last hero is leaving,

And he won't be still

For time or sorrow,

To carry him away

A comet that flies,

An arrow for the heart

In moments to remember,

A fire for freedom

In a world that meets,

The challenges of living

Where oceans chant ,

As the last hero leaves

A lovely, poetic tribute to a loved one. Delivered with tenderness and insight. Fine work.

While I wouldn't say that all other heroes are through appearing, I would say, for you, your husband was indeed, the last hero. I watched my grandparents grow apart as they aged. Both of my grandmothers welcomed to being free of the burden of their husbands. And, because he was in the hospital so long, four months, after my father left, I'm sure that my mother was relieved.

You must've had a very special relationship.

This is a poem that deserves a second read. Just as any good piece of art is worth at least a second glance. A very nice tribute to you husband! Amen!
