We don't need the pain,
Of living without love
Waking in the lonely night,
To the silence
We don't need the certainty,
Of no one to care for us
When we weep,
In the middle of a crowd
We don't need to feel the dawn,
Rise another day
And see the birds soar,
High in the breeze
We need to laugh the pain away,
And find our joy
In the centre of our being,
As we reach another day
We need to embrace our consolation,
In the moments that matter
As life gives us,
The power to see
We are not alone,
We are many
Alone but not alone,
In a human sea

Twenty-seven years ago I started to hire caregivers because I had no family, friends or neighbors close by that would help me get through my daily struggle to continue to work. My caregivers have become close and lifesaving, allowing me to work for 19 more years and feel that in my helplessness in the middle of the night, someone was there for me.
