A protest poem

'See them Now'

In the careless raptures of our hearts,

What do we see?

Do we see the world

Magnified in our indifference?

In a universe of want,

For every child

Like a mighty wind that blows,

Through the vast emptiness of their lives

Those multitudes that press,

Against our hearts

To hear them,

Sing for freedom

Do we forget ,

How it was

That great climb for survival,

In a world of uncertainty

To long for meaning,

In our existence

Peace in our days,

To really live before we die

See them now,

Don't let the hunger define

Their every moment,

As they hover on the brink

Of extinction

We must do what we must do, and never allow ourselves to weaken and "look back."

"To really live before we die" this one line deeply defines your poem. "Magnified in our indifference?" clearly is a warning to be aware and to care for others in need. If we have lived a long life does that make it better that if it was shortened? It should not but sadly at times, this is the case. Well done Mary!

Powerful. Applies to every living being. Should we care? Damn right we should and do something about it. Extinction is forever.
