An Instant of Rain 3/25/95
My tears fall down like rain
And torrents engulf the city,
I alone endure this pain,
And the clouds can know no pity.
Heavy hearted I continue on,
My eyes fixed to the ground;
The streets ahead are poured upon,
All pleas for hope are drowned.
The sky was pale blue coat of ice,
All my teardrops falling froze solid
And transformed to marble, cold and white,
And for that instant my sorrow was lifted.
Dedicated to Beth, who died at a very young age (29) due to a neglected (cancerous) melanoma.
My Death
I lie in the shallow waters of death,
Washed ashore, face down in the sand;
The water is cool, spreading over my back,
Then the waves return to the sea.
From a distance it's so refreshing,
My body's a lifeless float,
A hollow vessel from some turbulent sea
That's drifted onto this beach.
The beach is devoid of all life,
But for the steady tide of the waves
And occasional sound of seagulls,
I have never known such peace.
Pre-Hell 8/5/94
Adam and Even were children;
Had no parents, had no world
But a newly growing garden,
A garden as green as new life.
They bit into the knowledge of the future,
A future of intricate networks,
Of harsh, irrevocable figures,
A solid, invulnerable structure -
So strong this hell could last as long
As the human race itself.
Mom
A hideous spider
Invades me like a nightmare,
Like a nightmare disrupting sleep.
I struggle daily with the web
That's carefully woven around me,
Uncovering strands and trying to see
This tangled web that's trapped me.
Its power is always present
And if not seen it's sensed,
It seems like solid steel sometimes,
Suffocating my spirit,
An enveloping, menacing presence.
The spider is a tyrant,
A dominating force upon me,
And in my efforts to get free,
I've contemplated crime,
But turn instead, to dismantle the web,
Strand by tiresome strand.
