Poem Artwork

Unforgiving rain pouring down

Through the deep dead of night

Watching the slanted trees

No shelter for protection

Soldier, carry on

Merciless heat steaming up

Through the length of day

Watching the wavy horizon

No water for relief

Soldier, carry on

Foreign lands on all fronts

Through the lonely months

Waiting for the next letter

No trips home on the tour

Soldier, carry on

Living Hell all around you

Through the scarred morning

Fighting for those unknown souls

No worries for the brave

Soldier, carry on

Deadly silence in the aftermath

Throughout the bloody field

Wounded men screaming

No hope for the worst

Soldier, carry on

Quiet grief in the evening

Through the war torn mind

Wondering about ‘what if’

No answers for the questions

Soldier, carry on

Honored return with families

Throughout the nation

Serving your country is duty

No regrets at the end

Soldier, carry on

Mixed memories from early life

Through the mist of age

Declining physical being

No reversal for time

Soldier, carry on

Peaceful flying on white clouds

Through the crystal blue

Realizing that you have made it

No need to turn back

Soldier, carry on.

Robin,

This is gorgeous, moving poetry; thank you for penning such a powerful poetry in defense of those who defend our nation! As a veteran, I salute you.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
