Hold back the tears

                        From the fleeting thought.

Time has healed your

Surface wounds only.

                                  We never know how

                        Deep the cut remains,

            Until a simple conversation

Elicits the ragged emotions.

                                 Emotions that have lain

                        Dormant, months or years.

So sudden to surface

At the least expected.

                                How to combat those

                         Fresh tears that spring.

           When they are so

Close to bursting free.
