Rather than dwell on the separations between us, this poem urges us to consider these distinctions as ways to recognize our common identity and need for salvation...

Delineations

Mark the marks that measure
The loon’s neck, the jay’s back,
The rills in the riverbed,
The ridges on the bark.

Touch the tendrils twisting,
The lace-like iciness,
The shadow swept within
The cavern’s dimpled dark.

Sense these differentiations,
These delineations, denotations.
Each separating and joining
Joins, yet separates each mark.

Severe edges give us hope,
Inspire us to imagine changes.
Dawn breaks out of night, again,
Guiding us toward salvation’s ark.

Great write Douglas, and I agree: Our delineations reveal more about the things we have in common than the differences on which we tend to focus.
Thanks for the thought provoking observation.
Continued success-

You have given us cause to delineate well. I'll remember that.
