 It's not easy sometimes

to stand alone.

People think they know you

but all they do is assume.

They linger on the surface

and eventually disappear.

Is it due to fear that they

want to bury you in a tomb?

They already have your

epitaph inscribed for you.

“ Here lies the unknown person,

not even a human being, just

a thing” I don't know what he is.

I don't know what she is.

Could they be humans just

like me? Do they feel what

I do? How do we tell what is

solid, real and true when the world

does everything it can to

confuse us?

People come and go like a ghost,

as if they never were here, materialize

and disappear, the residue of

someone who used to live but

no more.

Is there an escape, a cure for trying

to breathe in a cemetery?

A dreary theme of what people can do to others without knowing it. The other day I went back to listen to Jean Pitney singing his hit song, Town without a Pity. That was back in 1961 about gossip.. With the advent of social media, the problem has become much worse.
