I think "they fade from some old mind." I remember reading as a young boy and I still retain some of the stories, and I am far from young. Yes, when the old mind is no more they fade away. Until, maybe, it's possible that another young boy or girl picks that same book, or clicks onto it on the computer and they read it and after a time, they too are old and ready for the stories to fade.
