There was a strange cloud in the sky today
It just hovered alone on a clear blue day
It was the fifth of July in the early afternoon
Looked kind of like an exploded water balloon
Maybe a reminder of a fireworks display
That ended at midnight on the previous day
Or could be a message for any and all
That memories of yesterday we'll soon recall
We celebrate the fourth with cheers and parades
Flag waving, rodeos and picnics with lemonade
A day to show our country how much we love it here
But the next, like a cloud, our zest will disappear
Our country is special and we must preserve it now
The government needs our strength to show them how
It is truly God's country we built our lives on
Wave our flag proudly every day from now on
A great way to remember who we are and why we are here in this wonderful free country established so long ago with great ideals. No, we are not a cloud that evaporates, but a changing entity that is evolving into the way the world wants to be in the 21st century.
