Asking other if they care about us is not the way to find out
I noticed on facebook how many requests are sent
To find out if others will respond and vent
To whether they will miss you or cry when you are gone
Only one person matters and you are the ONE.
Live everyday with a heart full of love
Trust in God in search for love from above
Say prayers for others who face trials of their own
Be humble and grateful for the simple things at home
Admire those with talent that you may not possess
Cherish your family above all the rest
Be kind, show compassion for those most in need
Open your heart and get rid of your greed
Do these simple tasks, they don't take much time
Sharing and caring for others fills your mind
Your heart will feel the love you need to survive
It's your works not their words that keep you alive.

You're so right. So many do not love themselves and try so hard to get others to affirm what they don't believe. It is much better to give than to receive. All one has to do is be at rest with who or what we are, like your poem describes, and we will be showered with the affection we didn't have to ask for.
