Jack Kerouac and Me Stare down at the once-ivory carpet, Puzzle over some unrecalled stain, Can’t remember who, when, how (Was it that party two years past, Maybe marinara from last week?) Probably just catatonic scribbling… Or I had no vacuum cleaner close at hand. I’m not sure if it’s the sable veil I always labor under Which keeps me going, Or the uncontrollable excitement That drives me back. Guess my dreams are just too limited, My sense of humor’s fled, like… Lately I’ve had this chill in my marrow: I’m the subject of a boring discussion Somewhere, 200 years from now. “Themes in Early 21st Century Literature: Minor American Poets” (An elective, if you’re desperate for one) I’m not sure if it’s the depression, Requiems in my mind, That keeps me going, Or the unstoppable mania Which forces me back. Jack Kerouac and me forever wandering outside Searching for a simple rainbow, Unsure if there’s a payoff pot of gold at the end Holding us accountable for our literary sins.

Kevin, how succinctly you've captured the torment, the mania, the grief, the fear, the heartrending beauty of being a literary artist. No doubt Kerouac would have enjoyed you as a travel companion; indeed, you are one.

I know of no sin that Jack did commit, and I see no sin herein...I definitely liked that of the “Themes in Early 21st Century Literature:
Minor American Poets” it shows me a sense of humor you do have, as well as Jack, you both do possess it...use that humor to face the self...Seek Peace, Ed & Rufuz (w00f)
