Deep steam haze, badger brush tease,
Gaze from mirror, start to breathe
Morning pleasure.
Eyes wide, skin white,
Sharp steel makes love to your face.
Tender glide with firm, gentle strokes
Along tight cheeks
Across taut throat
Cuts through with deliberate ease.
Leaves nothing in its wake but
Gentleman’s touch,
Blades crossed with care.
As pen to the page, towel
Wipes pearl cream from your lips, chin.
Tomorrow, once again.
Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
