I picture you lying there.
Darkness,no longer holding fear.
The unknown, now known to you -
A journey of unparalleled proportion.
I'm sorry I could not stop those final moments -
Transitional exchange of life forces,
Shared by those who have gone before,
anticipated by those of us who wait.
Your energy no longer touches me.
Instead, your memories linger with me.
Remembrances of laughter shared,
Tears shed and paths of life walked.
I picture you lying there.
The coldness of the earth your bed.
Your finite body left to decompose.
Your infinite body given wings to fly.
Very emotional reading and makes you think of your choices before death. I am glad I will have wings to fly when I leave to be with those that have gone before me to prepare a place with my Lord.
I think about what it took to create the eye, sound, taste, touch, and a plan that is so simple it confounds the wise to make the right choice and I am glad Jesus did this for us to see there is a life other than this earth.

Wonderful words of love and passion, an articulation of respect and thankfulness, the only elements that make love even possible. Your lack of Hallmark schmaltz also very much appreciated by this reader, as I abhor most poetry re: love, as it drips too often with self pity and cliche nonsense.
