Absolutely loved this one! You are so right, children are everyone's responsibility, to teach them and to keep them safe is what should be priority as well as to correct them when we see them slipping into the wrong path, which of course is not easy at all!

What happened Pier, is that parents have become afraid of their children. Young people who are naturally evil, try to bring those that aren't into the fray with them, and the ones that are not evil, learn indifference to life and property, and the rights of others. They don't abide by the Golden Rule, only by the knife and the gun.

Authority too, is indifferent to the plight of our children, even tho those that work for authority have children too, but they think that it only happens to other parents' children. Little do they know.

This is a very powerful and heartfelt piece, Pier, thanx for sharing.

"We Raised Our Children to Love" showed the picture and asked for medicine to cure the maladies of our society.

The closing lines ring the bell of good sense:

"Reach out a hand, today
Don't want to lose no more children
We raised our children to love
What happened?"

Let's be realistic. Our country, the United States of America, has kept another world war from happening for over 50 years. Yes, we make mistakes, but we mean well. Unrealistic persons, who don't know the history of man's greed, and stupid religious teachings that CERTAIN GROUPS are the only ones deserving survival, are a world fhreat. You younger people are here today, spouting peace, love, free speech, and the whole bit, because over TWO MILLION AMERICAN SERVICE PERSONS DIED IN THE LAST FEW WARS. Why don't we let the Presdent, and his appointees run the military? Our constitution says they are to do this. Any other conduct on our part, aids the enemy, and you better believe that we have ENEMIES!

It is my view that people are partially products of the examples their parents set (consciously or unconsciously) and the society into which they have been born. Human beings are all born with free will in tact. If a child lives in a free society, the child will grow up believing in freedom, and so on. (As I reminded my son's school teacher recently, children respect adults who are respectable.) All is not lost, because the process of evolution continues, and in my opinion, we have something to learn from the children of today -- if only more of us would take the time to heal ourselves. someday, perhaps. thanks for sharing this topical, thought-provoking piece.

A timely and crucial plea. Whereas familial influence was once the dominant factor when it came to shaping our children's character, for many children that role has been taken over by various antagonistic elements of general society, not to mention the overwhelming reality of war, disease, and poverty in the world, and their influence on not just children but adults as well. Thank you for this very thought-provoking and heart-felt poetic commentary.
