While this poem does not specifically reflect my personal life, it was
written for all the young single mothers out there who were forced to awaken to the realities of motherhood.

I looked at her smiling.
Enjoying her few days
In the land of the living.
Oh how sweet her ways...
And then I heard her cry.
As I looked at the bottle nearby,
I remembered the responsibilities
That I had to commit myself to.
And the necessary duties
That came along with it too,
When I decided to have a baby.
Then down came my tears.
Along with motherhood's fears.
At 17, I was too young maybe.

Interesting poem. It expresses the reality of motherhood that some young people are usually blind to until they're faced with the consequences of being irresponsible.

Sometimes when we are very young we tend to make choices that are hard to deal with after the fact. It's a flaw in our youthfulness. But then we are not perfect, only human.
Excellent write. Lisa
