"A Birdie 2"
the marks of
fowl's plumage
entreat without
diminish—
without dismiss,
as I see
their myriad colors
make gully my eyes
to look, as I stare,
intensely, consumed by
their beauty
the delight
in their wings,
wind meets, as it will,
gale their tufts
heavenward and
heavenly
my thrill caught,
they leap and flutter—
flee
I drift upon theories
of how they keep
up
… daydreaming
a trap is no place
for fowl—why one
seeks, captures, and keeps
their beautiful wings
bound from
soaring
just watch them, when they
glide ...
… what muse …
… many many wishes …
… to be …
… like these ...

The bird's plumage is the most beautiful in the animal kingdom. They even make loyal and seemingly contented companions in captivity.
I agree with you. It is time to set them free.
