Those times I am a different man,
Toiling beneath an indifferent sun,
I always come back
To the routine of falling
Into your wanting, waiting arms.
They carry me away
On the silent waves
Of your gentle notion.
I hold tight to that
Which is greater than all I dream,
All I hope,
All that keeps my meager heart beating,
For fear I’ll slip once more
From your delicate grasp.
Your eyes will be the last earthly thing I see
As I fall into the tiny tide pools
That collect at the corners of your lips.
Lips that once sparked mine,
Setting instant fire to my gut.
But this time, like so many times before,
you devour my desires,
For once again I’ve been drawn to the bait,
an earthworm disguised as an angel,
Dangling from a gossamer noose
With sinkers made of lead hearts.
