I found myself one day,
A richer man,
For in my hands, warm and wiggling,
Lay the treasure of a new voice,
Bright and beautiful.
Never have I held a breath so fresh,
Felt a touch so gentle, it was but a whisper,
Gazed into the fragile strength of eyes so curious.
And as they gazed back, fears fell away,
Revealing the wealth of a poor man,
And a world of wonder and enchantment.
So proud of this new found fortune,
I passed around my ten cent cigars
To a two-dollar world,
Filled my empty pockets with well wishes,
And slept each night as a king might,
Soundly with a smile.
