A Wilder Beast

hear that hungry cry;

early morning mournful howl?

dreams,

            peaceful dreams

and easy slumber

darkly disturbed

            by a Wilder Beast.

cool dew, damp,

beneath the prowling paws    sparkles

   in ghostly gray eyes,

peering   unblinking,   unfeeling,

            unrelenting

at its unwild prey.

soberly intoxicated

by the scent of a sun,

soon to break its silence.

as a clock, it moves,

            this Wilder Beast,

metered,

            silent,

                        forward,

chaos    closing for a meal

cutting short the Calendar

another dead man dancing

just a naked silhouette

            against the fading sun
