When I was going to college, I had to take a bus and was greeted daily by crows or blackbirds.
Four and twenty blackbirds
trotting on green lawn
kickin' 'round dewdrops
left by early dawn.
Their ebony feathers ruffle when
sleepy trees yawn
Four and twenty blackbirds
suddenly gone!
The whisper of the breeze
Exchanged between the trees
And even if I walk with ease--
It scares them all away
But not for long.
Eventually they return to play
Determined that they will stay
At least until something else
Shoos them all away.
