THE MOMENT


I set my alarm clock,
I hung out the flags.

I got things in order
and ironed out snags.

I went through my wardrobe,
tried dresses and shoes;

scoured every shop window
and studied the News.

Tied knots in my hanky
so I wouldn’t be late;

counted each sunrise,
put rings round the date.

I buffed, puffed and pampered,
too nervous to eat –

but the moment snuck past me
on cold, slippered feet.

I particularly appreciated the title to this piece, as it allows the reader to make what he or she will out of poem's body. Playful and anticipatory. Enjoyable respite for this reader today.

I see the punch of those last two lines. Wow. Not only passed, but on cold, slippered feet. That holds an achy sadness of loss. Great to have put the "....to be continued" introduction. There is such energy in this poem, light and anticipatory....before the fall. Yes, I'll be eager to continue this one. ~~ Diana
