Over fifty years! I can't believe
When 'Dr.' prefix I did receive
Seems only yesterday! I was a fresh faced boy
Self- assured, optimistic, full of joy
Ready to face what life would bring
Everything in life was vernal spring
Tackled life with gusto and with glee
I had never imagined it would be
With ups and downs-in between serene
And Time just passed Oh!So unseen!
Things slowly changed- imperceptibly
As they would, yes, inevitably
Looking in the mirror one day I did see
A stranger smugly smiling at me
It was not the boy of old I knew
He was older and with wrinkles new
Lining now his weathered face
The boy was was gone without a trace!
Entrapped in youth the the mind remained
Reluctantly to an old body chained
I am not the first in this lament
Sages of yore have made comment
On the fleeting of youth and waning years
As time goes by and the Ultimate nears
Wish I could go back just on more time
To those golden years of my early prime
It's good that we have both body and mind!

You got that right, your mind seemed to stay younger as the body grows older, least that is how I perceive it, seems you are of that opinion also Loved the indepth narrative here.
You have written in a single poem, what it took me 670 pages to write! It would be interesting to be able to go back over my life and relive it. I certainly wouldn't waste any longer years on longing and moping. And I would ring every possible experience out of what I did do way back then.
