Joy and happiness are bubbling through the air,
there are pretty decorations and lights everywhere
Packages and presents, gifts for everyone around
The scents of rich foods and fine meals abound
Come with me now, I have some things you need to see
Look in Sally Johnson's window, the one without a tree
She lost her job, has three kids to feed and cries at night
When her children awake - no presents will be in sight
See the Old Father who sleeps out on the cold street
On Christmas day he will not be sober or have food to eat
The working ladies will wander, hoping to live another day
if pimps, disease and law enforcement don't get in the way
Here is an old woman whose children deny she even lives
She has reached out, has changed her life, but no one forgives
She longs for the grandchildren she has never even seen,
Not even a picture, they are all grown, she should be a queen
So as you sing your happy songs and open presents all day
Remember these others, give them a thought and maybe pray
Thought provoking.
