The perils of ambition?

So you climb the ropes up the rough ladder

To the top To the top!

Rung by rung till your goal comes within reach

You grasp the bar

You swing and swing free hanging with ease suspended from bent knees

You're weightless careless swinging free

Now blood rushes to your temples

You are giddy

You fear you'll drop dead

oh Lord! oh Lord! Is there a net?

You reach up pull your body into a crouch

From your hands you dangle

Stretch! stretch out!

Oh, but your firm grip loosens

Your palms moisten your fingers grow hot, too

Alas, alas, there's only so much Talcum powder can do.

(It just ain't glue.)

Now you fear you're slipping

You're gonna drop drop drop...

You pray, to catch you there really is a net

But what if there's not?

Well then, you just flop -- and break your neck.

Life is a circus, is it not?

There is no safety net, sooner or later you'll break your neck, you might as well enjoy the clime! Your poem was written like a rope ladder in verse, took me right to the top. Very nice Gina!

yes, it is...Gina this is wonderful, life is just as a circus sometimes, and you know despite the challenges that we are given it is easier to overcome with a cheerful attitude and faith in God. This is a wonderful poem...and thank you for your kind comments in my reviews. Your a wonderful person.
Blessings as always,

Gina, I love your statement life is a circus and isn't it ironic that we're all monkeying around?

Life does indeed seem a circus at times, Gina...I well know.
I have played the clown on several occasions, as well.

Nice piece of work here.

The last three lines, wow! that's the kicker. Life certainly is a circus and I've always been afraid of heights. So, me and the trapeze thing....I'm better at being a lion tamer.(smile)

This wonderful write with a spin makes me think of the trapeze school in New York City (lower Manhattan area, near Tribeca along the Hudson River). I've seen many of the trapeze students fall, but never get hurt. You've written a very engaging story with a very unexpected ending. Thanks for sharing this. My best, Gloria

Ambition is a number one killer no one likes to talk about, because too many climb that ladder regardless of how, over whom, and what the result. This is a great write Regina and you were brave to tackle it'-)! All too often that safety net is missing!

LOL!!! Yeah I guess it is Regina!...if not a circus certainly a mystery. Just when we think we have it all figured out, we find out we have been reading the wrong story all along.
Take care,
Sherry
