lay down gently with me

and promise me nothing

take this little slice

of our lives only for yourself

and I will understand


awaken

close this book we've read

and set it back on the shelf

you need never again touch my hand

but please leave me slowly


for you have given me

something

that will take awhile to comprehend

a time of warmth and happiness


so wonderful

and a comfort

that to my soul

still descends.
