A Fever-Cooked Dream

by Aberjhani — Read all 107 poems by Aberjhani

From the book These Black and Blue Red Zone Days.

Saturday, February 22, 2025

Poem Artwork

In these black and blue red-zone days
illusion and delusion fuel each other
like blood-drunk zombies and vampires
gorging on lonely corpses’ frozen screams.

Like oligarchs fatally addicted to injections
of powdered ice and coins clogging their veins.

Hard most nights to tell love from hate.
To separate the sincere heat of human skin:
from the convincing taste of deep-fake tears,
from the artificial grin of a hacked heart.

In these designer-bubble misinformed hours
truth is a dictator draped in see-through chaos.
To laugh at what you see costs too much pain.
Better to let colors burn like winter in a fever-cooked dream.

A very scathing cynical poem about the way things are. I can see this as poetry critics' dream, but not one of those clear minded, simpler protest poems that resonated with the reader not as sophisticated as you.

Like the one that struck me deeply from an author I have forgotten but I do remember the words the way it ended…"We be dead soon."

Always top shelf and thought provoking poetry from you, Aberjhani. Enjoyed this and it made me think. What I've seen in recent years can weigh so heavy on the spirit if we don't look up and find hope.
