Dance and Sing
A thought occurred to me one day, as I gazed in the mirror,
Would still a Nightingale bestow it’s song if none could hear?
Without an ear to know the charm of each and every note,
Would not the Whippoorwill elect to spare his gifted throat?
Would Robin, Wren, or Chickadee, on nest or budding limb,
Sit mute in absence of another there for hearing him?
Does the songbird, though besieged with audience or not,
Call his tune, his every note, and sing with all he’s got?
I believe the world grows only sweeter with each trill,
And that, alone or not, he lends his voice, and always will.
And so we all, despite the lack of critics, friends, or fans,
Must sing our songs, alone or not, if such the heart demands!!
Philosophies may differ ‘round the world,
but know one thing,
If you love to dance, then dance,
and if to sing, then sing!
