Doors and Windows

I'll open doors and windows
And let the air flow through
Would my presence vanish
If I were gone from view?
If I left my crooked chair
And if my bath ran dry
If books in bookshelves furred with dust
If I closed my eyes
If I never bought more chocolate
Nor walked upon the hills
Would my place be empty
Or would it soon be filled?
Would my presence vanish
If I were gone from view?
I'll open doors and windows
And let the air flow through

If another soul were born to take
The space I left behind
If she were here instead of me
Would anybody mind?
Would anybody notice,
If I were gone from view?
I'll open doors and windows
And let the air flow through

I'll let the wind come sweeping
In around the room
Flushing out the demons
In case I go too soon
If my computer table
Were to be pristine and neat
If papers were all stacked away
Instead of round my feet
Would anybody miss me,
Would anybody care?
Or would they hope it wasn't true ,
That I might still be there?

Would my presence vanish
If I were gone from view?
The thought of that depresses me
So I'm not asking you
I'll cling to my reality
I'll stick to me like glue
I'll open doors and windows
And let the air flow through
