what I meant to say was,
when we met i was barely breathing,
but you opened my heart
my eyes
my lungs
and reminded me that breathing
is involuntary.
i took a deep breath and
everything was easy
breezy
beautiful
and i was the cover girl
that i so desperately
needed to be;
i threw off my warrior uniform
kicked off my boots
and melted into you
-or maybe you melted into me-
and for a short while,
i didn't have to fight for
sunshine
cause i had more than i could hold...
sunbeams spilling out of my arms,
falling faster than i could catch them;
and rain was always the strong,
spectacular and bold
motherf***ing statements of nature.
but now, you're gone
and i need to search my closet
for ativan
because suddenly i can't breathe again.
suddenly the clouds have claimed the sun
and the rain is just dirty water.

This is my first review. I love your poem. I was smiling and happy and the pace sped up and then dropped the bomb... Life isn't pretty most of the time. Acknowledging this is all we can do sometimes.
