Rain dance

Yesterday, as we watched

a thousand silver darts hurled themselves out of the water

today, my eyes droop as I sit

listening to the rain dance on the roof

an occasional loon, and the ever-present surf

Huddled around the fireplace

the fire dispels some of the dampness and chill

last night there were fireworks on the beach

to match the erotic explosions of the afternoon

The rain now insistent on the cottage roof

thinking of the cats at home

and wondering idly about the rest of the world

the dog snuggled up beside me

And I, all wrapped in an afghan

watching the rain

and listening to it bounce off the roof

as the rest of the world

swirls on quite well without me
