University education is presented as a panacea for all economic and social ills. But the academic envioronment and the life of the mind do not suit everybody. And if nobody works in factories making stuff anymore how do we pay the salaries of academics?
Many Universities issue their degrees
with enormous bills to pay tuition fees
but graduates gain no benefit,
they compete with chavs and yobs
when signing on a jobseekers
and applying for McJobs.
No wonder many young people
get the graduation blues;
higher education is just another ruse
to massage the statistics
and so disguise the state
of a broken down economy
and a nation laid to waste.
The knowledge based economy
can earn no revenue
if everyone is trained to think
but none have learned to do.
