Simple life was inspired by the three slogans of the Big Brother regime in George Orwell's 1984: "Freedom is slavery, War is peace, Ignorance is strength."
Simple Life proclaims the pleasures and priviliges of mindless conformity.
SARCASM ALERT: People what have had an irony by pass may not get it.
(poem can be performed to a twelve bar blues accompaniment)

All the people I know complain that they’re depressed

They say the pace of modern life makes them feel so stressed

Mess up their minds with crystals, runes and Tarot Cards

Try to understand the prophecies of ancient bards

But there’s no point in seeking ancient wisdom

If you want to smooth your path just drop into the system

I don’t see the point of worrying every day

Trust the people in grey and my problems fade away

Its a simple life and that suits me fine

Don’t think for myself at all, I follow the mainstream line

Never wanted much from life, I’m just a simple man

I wear Armani suits and drink my lager from the can

If a man works hard he earns the right to play hard

So I play with girls who get turned on by my gold card

In the Indian Restaurant I call the waiter Gunga Din

And my church believes that poverty is the only sin

Its a simple life, got everything I need

I’ve no emotions now, except jealousy and greed

I have a ninety inch TV and an expensive car

‘Cause its the things you own make you the man you are

I have no use for intellect or sophistication

The only thing that matters is my credit rating

The images of suffering are subversive lies

So I buy another status symbol and close my eyes

It’s my simple life and it keeps me sane

Conscience would only cause me grief and pain

Philosophies and ideals are overrated

Thinking tends to make your life too complicated

I’m a modern materialistic western man

Looking after myself and grabbing everything I can

Tell me, what is anybody working for

If you can’t stay ahead of the people next door.

I'm a simple man, I love my simple life,

Traded in my children's mother for a trophy wife

Sold my soul to Goldman Sachs, bought myself a Beemer

Who need  a soul when money is the great redeeemer

I believe the propaganda and  question nothing

And when I'm feeling lonely I buy some loving

And if there comes a day I grow tired of my life

I'll trade my children's mother for a trophy wife
