An appreciation of a friend who just died.

Damron, Dammit!

He straddled all the worlds
In a saddle he created
From a piece of leather only he could feel.
From the present to the past
From computers to a laste,
And every song and story he could steal.

He could find a panther’s trail
With a turkey on its tail;
And give reason why he couldn’t find them yet.
Then he’s turn around and smile
As you walked another mile
While he grinned and told you how you lost the bet.

He’s have a drink in hand
And tell you “You were grand”
Then borrow your guitar and steal your song.
He’d romp across your stage
And somehow turn the page
So that somewhere, somehow you knew you were wrong!

A diver he was too
Bringing Silver into view
Then polished it for all the world to see.
But the silver that he craved
Was not by Neptune ‘graved
And many submerged souls he did set free.

He did enjoy his fun
And knew about a gun
But was a man who truly wanted peace.
He ran upon the shoals
Of the cancers in his soul
Then found a space where he could find surcease.

He tamed horses, Life and men
And hunted down again
All the reasons that they ever gave him pain.
Then he took another look
And he wrote a children’s book
Then turned his life around and claimed the gain.

So he’s maybe not the best,
But he’s better than the rest!
He found a way to make us love his strife.
He made us love his songs,
His loves, his rights his wrongs:
He taught us everybody has a life.
