Dedicated to my brother, on the ten-year anniversary of his death.
I Looked Up to You
When I was young and you were older, I looked up to you. I had no choice; back in the day, I looked up to everybody.
As I grew older and you even more so, I still looked up to you. We were apart in body, but always Together in mind and soul.
I took my first adult steps, And despite now being taller, I still looked up to you, Who had endured a lot of changes In a world that wasn’t so simple anymore.
Once we became best of friends, I looked up to you. The sunset of your life drew near, And we walked toward it together; You modeled grace and dignity Every step of the way.
You’ve been gone for ten years now, But I look up to you, And always will, Knowing that we’re together… Still apart in body, but forever Inseparable in our hearts.
In memory of my brother, William Theodore Macon, July 28, 1947 – May 27, 1997.
