The sight in my closed eyes
Is a visual cacophony
Not unlike gazing at an
Animated abstract painting:
Colors cavort,
Patterns parade,
Enigmatic images in
A kaleidoscopic dance
Participate in art run amok,
Spilled upon my mental canvas
With no one to clean it up.
Sleep,
Even a few hours…
Once taken for granted,
Is no longer an option,
So I awaken and am left to
Contemplate the new gallery of
Optical chaos
Threatening to alter my reality.
Most people have to sit
Before their computers
To view a screensaver;
I have one all my own
That activates every time
I try to close my eyes,
And I don’t even need a password.
If I had my druthers, though,
I’d power my system down
Completely –
A cold reboot so I could sleep.

Karen and I (as well as our church team) prayed for you, will continue to do so - may you find healing and peace through this time of uncertainty.
