so often children tell us what they think we want them to say

Well... I would like to agree with you... but... I think that children do lie... out of protection to their own psyches. And some children are scarred so deeply that lying becomes a habit that they don't even realize they are doing. Spend an hour studying RAD (Reactive Attachment Disorder) and you will find some understanding of what many children, especially those who have been adopted, go through each day. It is sad... and some of my children live it.

Dear Gloria, I fully agree with you. They are open and they don't need to be introduced, only some of them need help. Your poem is simple and to the point. Congratulations, Emile

mmm...since children tend to reflect the good and bad of adult around them, I think you hit the nail on the head here. Good work.

I like how you put this poem together. It's well written; however, I think the best story that illustrates the flaw in its premise is Bill Cosby's story about his two-year-old sneaking a cookie from the cookie jar. When caught in the act and asked what are you doing, the child responded, "I was...I was getting this cookie for you." So, perhaps the poem would be more accurate as "Babies don't lie." ;-)

Growing out of innocence is a very sad event. Too bad time can't just stand still.
