Poetry by Liana Margiva

Cry, heart! As long as you keep beating,

The sorrow within will never be retreating.

Your joy departed, hand in hand with love

To land of no return on foggy path.

Two runaways: your destiny is sealed

To chase them ‘cross the mountains and fields.

They, too, are doomed to ever stay on run

To keep the distance any way they can,

To drain your strength and keep your weak and frail

And make you suffer on the grueling trail.

The pain invaded eyes, it never stops.

It drained the last remaining teardrops.

Abyssal anguish took the joy away

And settled there for a lengthy stay.

Cry, heart! So brutally rebuffed

When you were dying in the throes of love.

All nights turned sleepless, darkness filled the day

And time stood still when lover went away.

His heart was deaf to your despairing moans,

Indiff’rent to your mis’ry, cold as stone.

Cry, heart! Unloved you’ve always been

On pyre of love you frequently were seen

And, rising from the ashes every time

Back onto burning pyre you would climb.

To be sequestered from the joy of love

Your verdict was passed down from above.

The Moon was sadly looking on when pain

Would grip you as love failed you once again.

The stars would dim and hide behind the clouds

Avoilding question “why am I not loved?”

Cry, heart! Your lover turned away

When you couldn’t live without him one day.

T’was you that, in the pain untold,

Was fighting for last breath

In solitude’s chokehold

As Sun was warming every blade of grass

With love aplenty on its daily pass.

Cry, heart, to learn what’s sad but true

Rose doesn’t always cry the dew

Because it wasn’t given to

The loved one in the morning.

T’was you who never got the rose

Since to the love you weren’t exposed!

Cry, heart, for you the violin weeps,

It’s by your pain the stings are ripped,

Your misery across the land

On sounds of music it will send.

For all to know the heart that hoped

For love to come has never stopped.

Alas, nobody loved it back,

Thus poor heart became a wreck.

Cry, heart, the Reaper knocks on door,

Your wretched ship has run ashore.

Your days are numbered, it’s good-bye

Beneath the endless cobalt sky.

Cry, heart, your time is running out

You’re reaching end of finite rout,

And no one cares on this Earth

How much you loved. You have been cursed.

Cry, heart, the wind will break the curse

And spread your ashes over Earth

Where suffered you, of love depraved

Destined for mis’ry, bound for grave.

While I always enjoy your translated poetry, this one translates as a life wasted pining for love that just isn't there. A simple refocusing would give this individual fulfillment without having to constantly lament the loss that never could or would happen in a lifetime.

If anything I feel sorry for this person for not moving on and beginning to love him or herself.

WOW! LIANA, YOU HAVE LIVED AND THROUGH YOUR POETRY YOU RELATE TO EMOTIONAL SUFFERING AND PAIN EXCELLENTLY. IN THIS WORK I SEE LINES WHICH 'WARN' OF THE SAD ENDING OF A HEART THAT STAYS BROKEN FOREVER, NEVER MENDS AND NEVER LEARNS...NEVER REACHES TO LOVE AGAIN...OR TO EVEN TURN...AND WALK IN THE LIGHT OF THE 'ONE' THAT HAS ALWAYS LOVED IT. I ENJOYED THIS WORK IMMENSELY AND THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

I have always been interested in languages and especially Russian. I love the sound. It makes me wonder how this poem must sound in its original Russian tongue for which it was intended. In English, it echoes moving and heart-felt. Well done. John

"Sleepless nights...sequestered days....and [finally]the sun warming every shade of grass..." all compile to speak the Fado like language of the heart: mournful, musical and always yearning for something more as long as it keeps beating...

Very deep and sad poetic thoughts. Purging the heart and soul through poetry can help relinquish what once seemed seemed totally lost. The expressions are so sincere that one day a brand new day and new way of life will appear! This is my prayer for all that live with a crying heart. Well done Liana!
