Poetry by Liana Margiva

He slammed the door right in her face

He knows not - she can’t exist without him.

He lived too long without her around,

It took her way too long to show up.

It took too long for her to find him,

She wasted all her life in vainful search.

She knows that, yet deep inside her

Her heart is weeping, desolate.

He slammed the door,

His heart is battened down,

No tiny nook or cranny for her love.

A stranger she remains, in tears drowned,

Too long a journey from a distant land.

He slammed the door,

No need for stranger’s passion,

His inner peace he wishes to upkeep.

Why stir the heart with trivial confessions?

Why wake up something that is fast asleep?

Yet, stranger’s heart is wide awake,

Refusing to carry on without him around.

Its quest has been too long

And it is choosing the path of love

Now once he has been found.

He slammed the door, avoiding complication:

Away you go, stranger, disappear.

My heart’s in no need of more frustration,

I do not want you anywhere near.

The stranger goes away, rejected and frustrated

Around the Earth her thoughts and feeling roam.

Completing circle, they return, unscathed,

Right back to him. Her heart accepts no other

While he presents his heart to someone else.

Away you go, stranger, stop distracting

My heart which has no need for someone else,

Go find another heart, it may accept you

And love you like I love my one and only.

He loathes to admit that for the stranger

It’s him who’s one and only till the end.

But someone’s love and pain is lost on him,

She is a stranger, through and through, forever.

He can not fathom that no other

Would love him deeper than the stranger

Who out of his life he shut

When in her face he slammed the door.

I agree that the translation may have lost something. Yet I'm finding this is highly personal. That is you who has come to love late and had the door slammed in your face. I may be wrong. I am wrong quite often. I find this torment difficult to bear. It seems that once he slammed the door that hoping to get back would be worthless. Only in coming to grips with the loss and moving on to other loves, will the writer feel love once again.

A SLAMMED DOOR CAN MEAN A LOT OF THINGS. SOMETIMES FOREVER...SOMETIMES JUST UNTIL THE COUPLE COOLS DOWN. IN ANY CASE...ONLY TIME CAN HEAL; EITHER TO MEND WHAT IS BROKEN WITH BOTH OF THEM SEEKING A RECONCILIATION OR...TO MEND ALONE, IN ORDER TO START AGAIN WITH SOMEONE NEW. SO SAD BUT TRUE IS THE FACT THAT EVERY BROKEN HEART IS NOT NECESSARILY A BAD THING THOUGH IT DOESN'T FEEL LIKE THIS WHEN THERE IS A GREAT DEAL OF PAIN AND TEARS. ENJOYED, LIANA, WRITTEN LIKE ONLY YOU CAN. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

You express so well the pain of loss in a love relationship. I can almost hear the sounds, the crying and pleading, the door slamming shut. Wonderful!

How I wish I could read this in the original Russian and understand it. Translations may be good, but they can never capture the true essence or a piece of writing, especially a poem. I love your use of the word stranger and the repetition of the slamming door. Most effective, even in English.

What a painful poem! And so well expressed! I believe we all had gone through this at one point or another in our lives.

Love lost is always painful. I've been there myself too. He didnt shut the door, he just openly dated my girl friend. I understood his message and let them both go.
