O God, who considered my fallen state
and loved me still,
How proud and haughty, how reckless
the path of my stubborn will. . .
But You, who placed the flagstones 
where my faltering feet need go.
Sought me with love that opened
blinded eyes; You loved me so.
As a bird set free, I fled
the cage that imprisoned me.
The light that shone  on printed page
You sweetly shared with me.

Now we walk together, You and I,
as step by step, You guide.
As we walk on, oft times I stray,
while You so faithfully abide.
To follow where You gently lead, 
the desire of my fickle heart --
Each time I stumble, You assure me,
We two will never, ever part.
