Poem about my wild group of friends, many of whom are no longer with us.

Sometimes I feel guilty for living

When so many people I have cared for

Could do nothing but dying

I get the phone calls from my old circle of friends

Only when we’ve lost one now

I can’t help but think of what went wrong

That we had so many magic summers that faded

Into chemical romances that tragically

Ended silently in long pine boxes

We all loved and laughed as if it were our

Last days on earth back then

We shared our days and our nights

With great fun and celebrated until the glasses

Would finally run empty at dawn

It was all too good to stop the party

Enough was never, ever, enough

The drink led to the smoke, which led us

Way down the rabbit hole

Back then when we had no real worries but

Black memories we all ran from as surely as if

They were demons coming to take our souls

In time, in too little precious time,

Maybe they did.

"Black memories we all ran from as surely as if They were demons coming to take our souls In time, in too little precious time,
Maybe they did."

One day at a time, the reality becomes clear, you are the one that had the strength to rise up when there was no other way to go, there are just too many that just couldn't do it, for whatever reasons. This is a perfect description of the past catching up with you, now you just have to come to terms with it. Warmth and Love to you.

You have written a scene played over and over in time. Unbridled fun, friends...and then an outcome!
