SAFE HAVEN

When I am feeling depressed

And stressed because I cannot

Give my children what they need or crave,

I need a safe haven

To allow me to scream in my silence.

When my work overcomes me,

Long hours toiling, striving,

Making that paper to feed and house my family,

I need a safe haven

To free my mind, rejuvenate my purpose.

When my body craves a man’s touch,

And there is none forthcoming

Because the one I love is far from me,

I need a safe haven

To release my loins from want and need.

When I need a friend

To encourage me to press on,

Realize my dream, accomplish my goals,

You are my safe haven

To regroup, gather the strength to proceed.

When you need to cry and confess

That while strong and confident on the outside

The child inside seeks comfort and reassurance,

I am your safe haven

To allow the child to cry, receive the love it deserves.

A safe haven judges not,

Tells nothing and respects always.

It protects, lets one be who they truly are,

Freely and completely, no strings attached.

It envelops the heart and cleanses the soul.

When the world beats us down

With societal rules, family squabbles,

Financial burdens, disease and life challenges,

Just when you think there’s no hope, just despair,

Know that God is the Safest Haven of all.
