Gone
Humanity has come far, accomplishments are great.
Cities and societies, no par, yet we’ve lost control of fate.
One ingredient we’re short, certain full measure need,
If our ending history report isn’t dark story indeed!
Family planning element is of most import.
Ubiquitous intent must be continuous resort.
Here is the reason why: rhinos, and grizzly bear,
Lions, tigers and bison cry, are nearly nowhere.
These and lots more, will find solace in extinction,
For man, at prolific core, is of unique distinction.
Being accomplished due to expanded brain,
Against fauna brandished again and again,
Human numbers grow - fewer deaths than births
Need for tomorrow –– twelve more earths.
Sixth Extinction* we own - anthropogenic threat -
Imbalances sown allow pathogens to set.
Vermin increase as predators fall away,
Disease without cease –– human growth payday.
In realistic terms, right-track, wrong track,
Real threat –– germs –– from family planning lack.

We seem to have an insatiable desire to consume far beyond our needs and to think that procreation is good because everyone wants to have a legacy of children. Many today are faced with a legacy of deprived children. My mother was very upset recently when I wrote that I felt that my parents' lifestyle was a bit excessive. My father retired at 62 and spent all of his lifetime earnings and savings on himself, leaving my mother destitute and on the government dole when he died at 85. Unfortunately, my brothers and sister have followed along those conspicuous consumption lines. Still, they are better off than most.
Our borders cannot hold the world seeking fame and fortune they see the United States even though it isn't true. There's a need for a sea change brought on by draconian conditions in this century.
